Dear Reader
My first entry here will basically sum up what this journal will consist of. I have a livejournal page that I have abandoned for over a year now. In doing this, I heard about dreamwidth and thought I would give it a try. I thought I would try a new face in the world of journaling. My life has since drastically changed since my last livejournal posting as I now have a 2 year old, a job, and I am about to receive my journalism certificate. I had read a book titled "Mop Men" by Allen Emmins this is a documentary that he wrote about while shadowing a crime scene cleaner named Neal Smither whom through inspiration of what his work consist of, and a the multi-millon dollar industry he built from the ground up, I found absolutely fascinating. My point is, I stumbled upon something that I found quite interesting. I discovered I wanted to be the person that steps in another person's shoes and live to tell their story, like Allen did while telling his experience in the day of a life of a crime scene cleaner. Then I started reading a lot of books, as well as looking up documentaries on Youtube. I then, stumbled upon another amazing journalist. This guys name was Kevin McCloud, a journalist that traveled to the slums of India and documented his whole trip through video. I was then hooked, I did a lot of research on the different types of journalism and decided while I am still young, I think I am going to take up doing something in the field of journalism. In July of 2015, I was already a few communications classes in and decided to utilize my journalism skills and start my own documentary on an event I had attended in Florida. This event was the National Federation of the Blind convention. Lets just say if I knew then, what I know now I would have been better prepaired equipment-wise. I had some important interviews lined up and have them on audio however, I did not have enough space on both my camera and phone had not enough space. The most important interview I had on the last day I was there turned out did not turn out. The interview itself went great, however my equipment did not do so great. So, I just chalked this up to learning experience and will work on the documentary to the best of what I have. Well then motherhood came a long and I never was able to get back to finishing it. So, I want these entries to be surrounded by life, and journalism experiences. Some posts will be about current family and life times, others will consist of journalism ponderings. Either way I hope whomever reads these entries find some enjoyment out of experiencing life experiences through another eyes. I also want to work on my writing and storytelling skills. What more of a way to practice these skills other than using them in the form of a journal.
